Sgt. Rock - Biography
Sgt Rock
On leaving Collapsed Lung Sgt. Rock (aka Jim Burke) reappeared in his current guise in 1998 with the disco stomp of ”Deeper'n'Deffer”. This featured on Fused and Bruised's “Daytrip to Brisco” compilation, which received critical acclaim from the likes of Rennie Pilgrem and Norman Cook. Signed soon afterwards to Wiiija records, he released three singles and the album 'Live the Dream' which the Melody Maker called - “Phat, funky and fun, fun, fun” and Wax mag claimed made them “Proud to be British”.

Since the winding down of Wiiija records Sgt. Rock began recording alongside long term accomplice Scissorkicks under the name “Kicks and Rock” for Freddie Fresh's Howlin Imprint. He also released a few cheeky 7”'s on his own imprint GROT, one of these being “No Skool” which caught the ear of Splank! and was subsequently re-released a few years later in Febuary 2004. The track has since received props from the likes of Phantom Beats, Cedric Benoit, Price Cuts and Steelzawheelz with its funked up party vibes, and furthermore received the remix treatment from stable mate Myagi and Scissorkicks for a April 2005 release.

Since then Sgt. Rock also released follow up ‘Are You Ready?’ on Splank! In September 2005 and capping off a great year with ’Shazit’ co-produced with Scissorkicks and released on the almighty West Records imrpint. In between this, lets not forget, the Sarge’s warming up for Grandmaster Flash in Dublin in summer 2005.
